There are different types of abuse: physical, emotional, sexual, financial, or neglect.  Physical abuse could include such actions as your partner hitting, beating, pinching, and/or choking you. Verbal abuse involves yelling, name-calling and any forceful communication that is disrespectful or degrading. Sexual abuse is comprised of any unwanted touching or intimacy, or any sexual act performed without your consent. Emotional abuse involves threats, demands, commands and any behavior that would reasonably be experienced as forceful and without concern for psychological well-being. Neglect could involve a parent giving little attention to a child or elderly person, or your partner not speaking to you. Financial abuse includes a partner not letting you have a job, or alternatively, them not having a job and making you pay for everything.

Borderline Personality Disorder

Some identifying factors of BPD include having rocky relationships, impulsive behaviours, mood swings, and unstable self image. It can also include self-harm and having suicidal thoughts or attempting suicide. Individuals with BPD often feel as though they are constantly being abandoned or have an intense fear of being abandoned. Often this fear can manifest in intense anger expression and unpredictable behaviours. Living with these symptoms can be very difficult for those afflicted as well as the people around them. If you suspect you or a loved one might have BPD, there is help.
