Work Stress

Balancing work and life can be very challenging nowadays. Re-balancing and re-evaluating your life is often needed to replenish our mind, body and spirit.

Have you been working overtime lately at your work? Facing constant pressure to perform and avoid layoffs? Is work stress severely affecting your functioning in other parts of your life?

Our current economy has resulted in increased stress in the workplace. Fear of layoffs or an increased workload due to previous layoffs has become prevalent. Experiencing these extreme levels of stress can actually lower your work performance. In the long-term, this stress can significantly affect emotional and physical well-being.

Some signs that you might be going through too much stress at work include exhaustion, sleep problems, difficulty concentrating,  trouble ‘performing’ in the bedroom, social withdrawal, increased substance use, stomach problems, and headaches.  Maintained levels of works stress can become chronic and lead to problems such as heart attacks, strokes, and self-medication with alcohol or drugs.

You might be realizing that the stress you are experiencing at work doesn’t just stay at work. It follows you throughout your day and may affect your life outside of work. Work may become such a dominant role that your other life roles suffer and become unbalanced.
