How Can It Help My Child?
Psychoeducational assessments give us a standardized starting point for where your child may be struggling. One of our trained staff members, a psychometrist, Psychologist in Toronto will conduct this audit to further understand your child’s history, behavior and responses.
Once the assessment is complete your therapist will have the tools to provide a structured strategy and treatment plan for moving forward.
What the process looks like
- Initial Consultation – meeting between the parents, student and psychologist
- Psychometric Testing – The student is given various tests to access executive function, memory, intellectual ability, reasoning and attention.
- Assessing Social & Behaviour Function – Clinical interviews and questionnaire are conducted to gain further understanding
- Results & Reports – Final results are released and developed into a comprehensive report for the parent. This includes recommendations and strategies for the child moving forward.

Standardized Measurements
Standardized means the test has been administered across varying ages, and backgrounds to determine an average measurement that is considered the norm. From this measure, we can evaluate whether the individual is performing above or below the mean.
Norm-Referenced
These averages give us data on how the individual is performing compared to others his/her age.
This can be interpreted as:
- Percentile Ranks: a reference for where the student or individual performs relative to other individuals. If one is in the 80th percentile that is they performed above 80% of peers their age.
- Standard Score: Standardized scores are the average score one receives on the test. This creates am estimate of whether the student is performing above or below average.
Are other concerns evaluated?
Yes! Comprehensive testing evaluates potential contributing factors like anxiety, depression and trauma. Ruling out other psychiatric disorders is important for both the treatment and management of ADHD.
How do I know if we need one?
It is common for a teacher or parent to pick up on mannerisms that exhibit ADHD behaviour. Another critical indicator could be a lack of school performance despite the child’s apparent intelligence. Which is disrupted by their inability to focus and carry out tasks of executive function.
Getting tested is the best way to know if ADHD is what you are dealing with.
